Our adventure started early Thursday morning. We woke up at 4:30am and left the house by 5:15am. Since we're carrying luggage for the year, we had six suitcases and two small carry-on bags! With that much baggage we gave ourselves plenty of time to drop the bags and get checked in. After dropping the bags at the gate, Matt dropped the rental car off while I watched our stuff. We were concerned that some of our bags wouldn't make the 50# weight limit and we'd be charged extra. Thankfully, the AA agent wasn't looking when Matt gave a slight lift to our heaviest bag.
The flight to Milwaukee was smooth and uneventful. We arrived Milwaukee on time and met my mother for lunch. Matt and I dropped 4 of our largest suitcases with her and headed to Chicago with the remaining bags. We spent Thursday visiting our good friends Larry, Lisa and their son Ethan. By Thursday night, it started snowing and by the morning we had six inches of fresh snow and temperatures in the single digits!
Friday morning, we took the train into Chicago's Union Station from Larry and Lisa's houses. We needed a cab to switch stations as we had 10 blocks to go in snow and bitter cold temperatures. After an hour of waiting in a cold dirty train station, we hopped the train to visit my sister's family outside of Chicago.
Quite a journey for our first 48 hours out of TX. We certainly didn't make it easy on ourselves, but everything turned out fine.
